Trauma

Counseling for Trauma

Experiencing trauma can feel like a deep fracture in your being – whether intergenerational or societal wounds, from past events, chronic illness and/or medical issues, or ongoing struggles. Trauma can leave you feeling disconnected, oversaturated, and unsure of how to move forward. You can get stuck in fight, flight, freeze, or fawn, making it challenging to interrupt the patterns without some outside support. Together we will identify a trauma-informed approach that resonates with you to process and overcome the overwhelm.

Grief & Loss

Everyone’s journey in grief and loss is different. Attending to it in a culturally connected way can help ease the impact on you while also integrating within your authentic self. All types of change can create feelings of grief and/or loss, so it is when we encounter grief and loss, not an if. I provide space to openly talk about the impact of our losses, whatever form they take, and the real grief we feel. We are human beings in relationships with other human beings, collectively experiencing life and losses. My focus is to support a reduction in isolation in the experience; assist you in identifying what support is supportive; and to develop ways to re-center and regulate during the common flare-ups of feelings.

LGBTQIA affirming counseling

The LGBTQIA+ experiences are often multi-layered and can mean navigating a world that doesn’t fully embrace you for who you are. It can be a challenge to find a space to safely express your authentic self especially when the environment and society around you may be openly hostile, apathetic, or dismissive. Together we will explore and celebrate your overlapping identities and encourage you to embrace and live congruently as yourself. We may also focus on improving relationships that you want to be in; promoting interpersonal safety; and/or developing healthier and more fulfilling relationships, whether monogamous or ethically non-monogamous.

Neurodivergent affirming counseling

Being neurodivergent can feel both exciting and exhausting when living in a world with unrealistic and arbitrary social standards and expectations. I’m not here to change you to fit those biased standards. Together we will create space for you to feel understood, embrace your value, and learn to navigate the world on your own terms. We will explore your experiences, celebrate your strengths, develop ways to manage overwhelm, and build strategies for self-advocacy in work, school, and/or personal life.

The Perimenopause and menopause experiences

You’re not losing your mind, but your hormones might be trying to convince you that you are. So many people forget or neglect the impact of our physical well-being on our mental well-being. Some symptoms of perimenopause and/or menopause can take the form of sleep issues, brain fog, out of character mood changes, physical changes, relationship and libido changes. And you’ve tried all the things, and nothing seems to be working or at least not enough. Together we will create a larger plan for you to advocate for your whole health with medical professionals and will remind you that you are enough, and your voice matters in your own healthcare.

Have you gone to therapy or talked with another person and they tell you, “But you’re doing so well”? We all know someone or are someone who can mask and do all the things for everyone and then, when we are alone or slow down, the weight and loneliness of it all can come crushing down on us. For everyone on the outside we look “great” and yet on the inside we are feeling like an empty shell of our former selves and are barely holding it together. We will take time to process and explore how to let go of perfectionism and embrace your authentic, imperfect self.
